The draft document showing the proposed cycle routes for Marlow is here, be aware this is a big 10mb document. Marlow Cycle Network
It’s been over a year since Marlow had it’s first ‘Car Free Day’ when the documentary was filmed. With just a few days notice 200 cyclists turned up on the 1st Feb 2007 to ride through the town to show that there is a groundswell of support for safer cycle routes in Marlow.
So what progress has been made?
Well, Neil Marshall from the Town Council, a couple of Marlow residents and a couple of local cyclists who regularly cycle in and around the town got together one morning to tour around Marlow by bike. Our aim was to show the Town Council where sensible and, more importantly, useable cycle routes would benefit town residents and workers.
We highlighted several routes that needed safer facilities for cycle commuting. These have now been put to paper in a document which should move things forward. We hope.
The routes we are looking at getting some improvements to are the main route into town from the Bourne End\Bypass roundabout and along Wycombe Road into town. Both routes are busy with traffic, narrow in places but lead straight to schools, shops and the town centre.
One year on doesn’t seem like much progress so any pressure that you, the Marlow resident or worker can place on the various councils to speed things up will help!
The documentary based around the traffic congestion in Marlow will be aired on Tuesday 26th February at 9pm on Channel 4.
